Admit it: when applying to colleges, students and families must adhere to a rigorous schedule. These schedules include juggling test dates, obtaining school information and forms, securing letters of recommendations and researching potential schools. Most families lament the process and plea for organizational assistance. Crisp Consulting + Coaching could like to offer a September schedule that will help juniors and seniors in the college admissions process.
Schedule testing. With ACT dates of September 21st, October 26th and December 14th and SAT dates of October 5th, November 2nd and December 7th, now is the time to dedicate to admissions testing. Juniors will want to take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 16th. Review the median scores and testing policies of the schools in which you are most interested. Schedule test preparation that expands over several weeks with a dedicated two to three hours of test preparation a week.
Schedule a counselor meeting. A meeting with your school counselor and/or an educational consultant can benefit your academic planning. Examine each college’s admission requirements and be aware that more selective colleges require more courses than those required for your high school graduation.
Schedule a visit. Students, not their parents, should schedule campus tours. Examine a long weekend or teacher workday and plan your visit accordingly. In addition, investigate when admissions officers will be visiting your school or area.
Schedule your research. Get thee to the library and investigate college guidebooks. Examine college websites, read student blogs and discuss your findings and questions with a guidance counselor or an educational consultant.
